Study: Students slog through college, but don’t gain much critical thinking

“An unprecedented study that followed several thousand undergraduates through four years of college found that large numbers didn’t learn the critical thinking, complex reasoning and written communication skills that are widely assumed to be at the core of a college education.”

  1. Stephen Fretwell says:

Please don’t send anyone to college hoping that the institution, any institution will make them a better, brighter person. Members of the species Home sapiens don’t work that way. Find a mentor, a teacher, that you can bring good questions to. Make coming up with those good questions top priority. Challenge friends and roommates with the daily question, “What was the best question you asked today?” Smile at their dirty looks, and ask again tomorrow. You both need to remember this focus. Life is good. It is better than you think. But death is bad. IT is worse than you think.
